Fahda: Chocolate Brand Animation Campaign
Riyadh-based creative agency TOLD commissioned a series of CGI animations for their client, the Saudi Arabian luxury chocolate brand Fahda. Needless to say, they needed to hit hard and look delicious. We thus made the animations for a major digital out-of-home advertising campaign set to launch across several key metropolitan areas.
The challenge
The main challenge was reflecting the sensory experience of tasting Fahda’s luxury chocolates visually. Our first thought: Hey, this should take our viewers through Fahda’s cities, like Riyadh and Jeddah. But it should add a surreal, dreamlike layer that evokes the taste and crazy-delicate texture of these chocolates. However, there was another challenge: an exceptionally demanding deadline. We actually had to interrupt our entire production schedule for the other clients. This commitment, of course, required a 100% upfront payment. And the final challenge: Fahda’s vision had to be executed flawlessly across over a dozen different digital out-of-home formats. That meant a super collaborative and agile production process.
The process
Throughout the whole project, we worked closely with TOLD agency’s art director. The project evolved from simple storyboards to super intricate 3D models for three chocolate products. This took several rounds of detailed feedback. One of the first responses we got on the chocolate model called for a “more uneven cut” with “more grain to be less plastic.” Later feedback asked for the cream filling to be “a bit more glossy-wet to be more appetising.” Art direction for the complex particle animations asked for the “orbit in a more open shape” and that the initial “gold pieces” be replaced with more elegant “gold gemstones.” When all that was said and done (and the client was happy), we refined the cinematic lighting to create a “hazy atmosphere” and a “more dreamy feeling” using “lighting that emphasizes the volumes.” Lots of quotes, we know! That’s just to show we take every single note seriously. This is how we made sure the final visuals perfectly matched Fahda’s sophisticated vision.
The outcome
We delivered on schedule, and we delivered big: a series of stunning, high-definition animations, fully optimized for the campaign’s launch across myriad out-of-home formats. They told the luxurious, dreamlike concept of the Fahda brand. And yes, they translated flavor into an unforgettable digital wonder. The client was so happy with the three-animation set, they commissioned two more right away. Later on, the project got even more positive attention after being shared on professional social media platforms time and time again.
