The challenge
Coin Vigilante makes Bitcoin-inspired watches for collectors. The launch was planned as a pre-order: the website had to show every model before the watches came off the production line, and the only pictures available were quick phone shots that couldn't carry a launch.
The brief covered men's chronographs and the women's Genesis Edition, in Bitcoin and Litecoin versions, each from the front, at a three-quarter angle and from the caseback. The references didn't always agree: the manufacturer's mock-ups showed one thing, the photographer's pictures of the samples another. The client decided the pictures were the accurate ones, so we followed those.
The process
We worked from the manufacturer's mock-ups, the photographer's pictures and videos of the samples, the logo and font files and the caseback artwork. The men's case is 41 mm wide and 10.7 mm thick, the women's 36 mm and 6.95 mm, and every model was built to those sizes.
The first look went to the client after two days. Over three review rounds we corrected the Roman numerals, the minute and seconds hands, the darker, more matte finish of the Shadow Edition, the shinier gold, rose gold and silver of the women's watches, and the engraving on the casebacks, down to a missing apostrophe in "Satoshi's Vision". Every watch was lit in the same virtual studio, so the whole collection matches.
The outcome
Final renders were approved on 21 December 2022, 16 days after the project started. Coin Vigilante opened pre-orders with them while the watches were still being made, and received the finished watches a few days after the launch.
The client's last message: everything looked great, and they would use us for future projects.
