The challenge
Nice One, the Saudi online beauty store, sent a detailed brief for its private label Calla Makeup: ten images in the first stage, from the Disco Fever mascara, Glazed Lips gloss and Eye-Conic palette to the Bunny Cheeks blush, plus products from other brands it sells, such as Nabla blush, Beauteous colour contact lenses and the Laundryou cleanser. Every render had to be landscape and "designed primarily for print".
Each image had its own direction: gloss shades flying with drops of gloss, a highlighter floating between clouds over desert ground under a big moon, an eyeshadow palette between two earthy rocks, blush brushes in a circle. One product wasn't listed online yet, and the labels were the main concern: some were only available as low-resolution images.
The process
Martin's first video sorted the brief into style groups: four minimalistic, three simple-prop and three custom images, with about 12 hours to model and texture the nine products we had to build. He asked for vector label files where possible and set up Nice One's account in our client system, where each product had its own revision page.
The details came from Nice One's team: the Kitten Paw applicator had to match the real brush, denser and skinnier at the top, with the cap off; the gradient had to run right to left; one lid had to be frosty, semi-transparent and tilted open; bubbles were to look like they were hugging the product. When feedback from different reviewers began to conflict, we switched to live calls. On 11 December we opened the scenes in 3D while Nice One's team watched: a mirror-like surface was made slightly rough so its double reflection stopped confusing, the crowded mascara shot got breathing room with fewer disco balls and a spotlight, and the blush image was zoomed out to leave space for text.
The brief then grew: the In the Clouds lip oil holder hanging on a thin branch among soft pink clouds, and, in March 2026, two products without a background.
The outcome
Nice One received landscape renders at print quality, with the blush image rendered at extra-high resolution so the team could crop it for its own layouts.
The work led to a second project. Nice One briefed us on 3D renders of Ola Hair's hair devices for that brand's new packaging, and we reviewed the models with them in January 2026.
