CGI is an ideal option if you’re looking to reduce the hassle and potential risks of shipping products. Key areas taken into account when pricing for CGI product photography include the type of surface to be recreated, image resolution and the quantity of images required.
A few things to consider
Price factors in CGI photography
3D modeling and image rendering is elaborate and time-consuming, and the complexity of your unique project will influence the price point greatly. Most of the time we work with briefs with established budgets. There is also a minimum fee to start a project with us. For a catalog photography projects it starts at €500 and for creative photography projects it starts at €1500.
1. Complexity of the product
Hard-surface products
CGI modeling was made for hard-surface products and works incredibly well for these. The price for 3D modeling of hard-surface products is often lower than other surface types because excellent, hyper-realistic results can be achieved in a shorter length of time.
Hard surface examples
- Containers and tubes
- Bottles and glass containers
- Jewelry and watches
- Any type of hard surface object
Organic / soft-surface products
Although 3D CGI modeling is perfectly suitable for any product, it will take longer to achieve the same stunning and true-to-life visuals when modeling organic or soft-surface products like creams or fabric, as a much higher attention to detail is required.
Soft-surface examples
- Liquid or cream
- Fabric or leather
- Fashion and garment
- Food or any organic material
2. Number of images
In order to receive an accurate price estimate for your project, it’s important to inform us of exactly how many images you require, as well as the purpose of these images. For example, you may need a few creative images for your website banner and social media, alongside a collection of catalog images for product listings.
3. Creative style
If you’re opting for more creative imagery, pricing will be dependent on how elaborate your desired effects are, and the length of time required to execute the 3D modeling to a high standard. By providing an accurate description of your vision alongside a mood board, we can provide a more precise quote matched to your project’s unique needs.
4. File size
When requesting a quote, it’s important to let us know where you plan to use your images, allowing us to provide a suitably sized result. Images to be displayed on social media platforms like Instagram, for example, require a much lower resolution than those you may wish to feature on your website. By default we are providing images at 16:9 ratio – 1920px of the long side of the image or you can also request other rations like 1:1, 4:5 or 9:16 in JPG format (300 DPI). The larger your imagery, the longer it will take to generate and subsequently, the higher the cost will be.
